Members of the County Assembly have approved a motion moved by Hon. Hawaa Abdulrahman (Nominated MCA) on sustainable beautification of Mombasa County.

In a sitting presided over by Hon. Abdirahman Abdulkadir (MCA, Old Town ward) Hon. Hawa pointed out that Mombasa County is a major business hub and a popular tourist destination in Kenya which attracts both local and foreign investors and tourists. She added that there is need to promote the County's aesthetic beauty to enhance tourism and employment opportunities.

The motion mover appreciated the efforts of His Excellency the Governor, Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir that saw the temporary recruitment of 2000 youths under the program Mombasa yangu to clean the CBD and it's environ.

Her concern was that the County will loose it's competitiveness as a major business hub and popular tourist destination if strong and urgent measures are not put in place thus affect revenue by both levels of Government and impinge on socio-economic development.

She urged the Assembly to resolve that the County Government purchase additional garbage collection and street cleaning washing vehicles, establish a waste separation program and consider working with partners to establish recycling facilities. Furthermore the County Government should put in place laws that impose penalties for littering in the streets.

In addition to enhancing aesthetic beauty of the County she emphasized on the construction and rehabilitation of public parks, recreational facilities and tourists attraction sites.
